New Trail

This somewhat different freeride tour in Oltradige takes in a lot of metres of altitude, giving sensational views of the Dolomites and the Bolzano basin from Costiera della Mendola. We take the historic Mendola funicular from Caldaro and in no time at all arrive at the Passo della Mendola. The tour begins on asphalt and leads steeply up to the Penegal (refreshment facilities). From here along fantastic trails down to the Furglauer Scharte and further on to Prinzwiesen. For fit mountain bikers we recommend the climb to Monte Macaion. From Prinz Hut on Trail 545, also called the Neuer Weg (New Trail), the track runs steeply downhill towards Appiano. This splendid downhill is at first technical but then becomes more undulating. After the climb to Masaccio you can enjoy the racy trail back down to Caldaro. However, you can also cycle on asphalt from Appiano, without climbing to too great an altitude. Alternatively, you can ride up from Caldaro to the Passo della Mendola along the road through the pass. (2 hours, 13.5 km, 864 metres of altitude)
