The Comici Hut

A wonderful panorama in the heart of the Dolomites. This mountain bike tour with its wealth of variety leads from Val Gardena across Alpe di Siusi to the splendidly situated Comici Hut. Right from the start, the route from Ortisei climbs steeply for a short distance uphill to Oltretorrente, then rises and falls gently through the forest to Bulla. The route continues on the steady, but steep climb on the road barred to vehicle traffic up to Alpe di Siusi. A short descent to Saltria, then a gentle run on gravel towards Sassolungo. The tour leads high beneath imposing cliffs to the Comici Hut, with several steep ramps to negotiate, where you have to push your bike from time to time. The effort of making your way up there is soon forgotten, when you are faced with the sensational view of Sella Mountain and the Puez Group. A stop for refreshments in this alpine hut, famous among gourmets, is a definite must. You cross the Città dei Sassi, or City of Stones, to reach the Sella Pass, where the descent into the Val Gardena begins. It starts as an undulating trail and then the tour leads down on gravel and asphalt to Selva di Val Gardena and onto the cycle track to the departure point.
