Pustertal Valley Bike Route: Bruneck - Franzenfeste

E-Bike & Pleasure Cycling

General description

The Puster Valley Cycle Path from Bruneck to Franzensfeste guides you through diverse landscapes, passing historic towns and picturesque valleys. The route offers a perfect blend of nature and culture, making it ideal for those looking to explore the region in a relaxed and active way.

Route description

The bike route starts in the center of Bruneck (835 m) and follows the Rienz River towards St. Lorenzen. This section mainly runs on gravel paths, before transitioning onto a paved road shortly before St. Lorenzen, leading directly into the town center (810 m).

After St. Lorenzen, the route briefly leaves the river, passing through the St. Martin district and heading towards the Gadertal Valley. Along the Pflaurenzer Kopf, the path returns to follow the river and the railway line. Alternating ascents and descents characterize the route as it moves westward through Ehrenburg (805 m) towards Kiens. The scenic landscape of meadows, fields, and forests accompanies you through St. Sigmund and on to Ober- and Niedervintl.

From Niedervintl, the path gently descends, passing the historic Mühlbacher Klause, before rising again towards Mühlbach (777 m). If you wish, you can continue over a small hill to the outskirts of Schabs (772 m). After passing under the main road, the route follows a quiet side street through Aicha (730 m) until it reaches the impressive Franzensfeste fortress, where the Puster Valley Cycle Path connects with the Brenner Cycle Route, continuing from Brenner to Bolzano.
